I am reading "Wildlife Wars" by Richard Leakey. After meeting him I have been very interested in his political career and his mission to save Kenya's natural resources, especially the African Elephant. At our lunch stop several Masai women flocked to the truck holding up their beaded belongings and carvings, "It was a squawking of bartering and shouts of prices, quite comical actually! How could they know that we did all our shopping for Masai beads already."At our camp site there was very tall sharp grass. The staff were hacking it down with machete's. Even with all the grooming of the land, there was still sharp grass left, it cut our legs and even poked up and cut holes in the bottom of some tents! It is very hot and arid and dusty at this camp site. 10 years ago today I was on a road trip to a new part of Kenya.
