Shanna Of Kenya
Julie Getting On The Camel
I felt like I was on the set of "Lawrence of Arabia" today, it was marvelous! The adjacent ranch to where we were staying had camels for us to ride, there were only 20 camels and there were 42 of us so we had to take turns. Out of the 4 hours of riding, I was riding for 3 of them. "When mounting the camel, it bends down so it is sitting down. You get on and have to hold on tight because they lurch backwards and forwards to stand up. It was scary being so high up! The camels have one hump that a saddle is put on top of and we ride it. The camels were tied snout to tail to walk in a straight line, sometimes they got loose but there were lots of staff around to tie them back together. I pet my camel's head, there's a mushy part between it's ears, weird. The camel in front of me kept pooping, they poop an awful lot!" 10 years ago today I rode on top of the hump of a camel across the Kenyan Savanna; how cool is that!?
