8:00 Breakfast
10:00 Church
12:30 Lunch
6:30 Dinner
10 years ago today it was Sunday, and we were headed to the Gospel Outreach Church. "We got there and had to go through the gate, it was surrounded by barbed wire fence. The church itself was made of plywood with a corrugated tin roof. The floor was a dirt/sand mixture. If it rained, we would get wet inside for sure. They had a keyboard and microphones and speakers. When we first arrived they were singing in English. There were 2 preachers, one spoke English and one spoke Swahili. They were speaking at the same time so it was hard to hear them. They also read from the Bible in two languages. Most of the sermon and prayers were in English. The preacher called us the "light people from Canada." There was also lots of singing." I commented in my journal that the volume was so loud and there was feedback from the speakers which no one seemed to notice. I noticed that when we first got there, there wasn't many people but over the time we were there it really filled up. "I guess that's why they blast their music, to draw people in." We left before the service was over, only staying an hour and half. The preacher came on our truck before we left and prayed with us. It was an interesting experience. 10 years ago today I had the privilege of attending church with a very welcoming congregation.
