Very Last Travel Day to Karen

Day 75
7:00 Breakfast
9:00 Leave for Karen
12:30 Lunch
8:30 Arrive in Karen
9:00 Dinner

It was sad to leave the coast and know that this was my last full day in Kenya; however I had felt worse when we left our tents and said goodbye to our staff. I was ready to go home to Canada by this point.
Our drive back to Karen was riddled with problems. First of all, we got a flat tire and then drove on it for about 30 minutes - in the pouring rain! Finally we got out of the van and had our lunch while the driver changed the tire.
Second problem was we got stuck! "we had to drive on this dirt road and we all knew if we drove through the ditch we'd get stuck - but we went anyway - and we got stuck. We had to push the van out of the ditch."
Our third problem was when we got close to Nairobi, we ran out of gas! We had to wait on the van while the driver walked to a petrol station to get a canister. When the van started we drove back to the petrol station to fill up.
And last but not least, as we are approaching Karen, we get lost. The driver is driving around and around looking for our compound and has to keep turning around. Finally we got to the compound. It felt good to be back.
"Some staff were brought back and they made us dinner for when we arrived, potatoes, beans and carrots! Yay! I love our staff's food, it's much better than it was on the coast." We didn't have our bags since the truck wouldn't be bringing them until tomorrow so we didn't have any sleeping bags. We lay our mats on the floor in the compound to have a big sleepover! We put on the movie Lion King and watched it while reminiscing about our fantastic adventures. 10 years ago today I slept in Kenya for my last night.
